1039 - Sharing Our Journey: Using MEDITECH to Enable Better Quality Patient Care

Fraser Health’s myHEALTHSystem program and Integrated Plan of Care project have a focus on change management to ensure clinicians are supported in adopting significant change to clinical practice and patient care. Fraser Health uses MEDITECH to enable better quality patient care through its build of PCS, the rollout of PWM mobile and the change management supporting clinicians. In 2009 Fraser Health began a program to move toward higher HIMSS stages. The myHEALTHSystem program has a vision to “integrate person-centred health information, across the continuum of care, in support of optimizing health care for Fraser Health citizens and providers.” MEDITECH is one of the key enablers to supporting FH’s myHEALTHSystem vision. Jump ahead in time to Fraser Health’s Integration Plan of Care (IPoC) initiative where the goal is to have ‘one accessible individualized and integrated care plan’ for all professions involved in patient/client/resident care supported by a single patient electronic health record. On November 1, 2016 Fraser Health is going live with our IPoC initiative using MEDITECH’s Patient Care and Safety System (PCS). This go live is the culmination of several years of work bringing together clinicians, clinical program teams, allied health care professionals, physicians and health informatics. Prior to the go live of PCS, FH is planning to implement MEDITECH’s Physician worklist manager (PWM) via mobile devices. Tips, tricks and lessons learned to support clinical mobile technologies will also be shared. Corinne Tillyer, RN, BSN, MA, is the Executive Director, Health Care Information Systems for the Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia, Canada. Corey is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master’s degree in Healthcare Leadership. Corey is a hospital trained registered nurse who worked in acute care at a tertiary care hospital during the early years of her career. Always having an interest in computer science, and believing information systems would benefit clinicians and the patients’ she served, Corey moved into the clinical informatics field during the 1990’s. What started out as a temporary position representing nursing on a clinical IT project, turned into a 20+ year love affair supporting clinician adoption of health care information systems. Today, Corey provides leadership in the development of the interoperable electronic health record and ensures that Fraser Health continues to move toward advancing clinical information systems through the myHEALTHSystem program. Corey represents Fraser Health on Provincial and National committees working toward a common vision of interoperable electronic health information that supports patients, clients, residents as well as clinicians and providers.
