1021 - Improving Clinical Pharmacy through Administration Criteria

The Admin Criteria field in MEDITECH Magic 5.6.7 has been very important in our medication build for multiple types of medications. This session will provide a background for the evaluation and use of this functionality. It will also describe the types of admin criteria that have been standardized across our facilities, as well as the impact of this functionality on provider order entry, pharmacist clinical order review and verification, and nursing administration. The session will also discuss the change control, next steps and integration of this functionality with other systems. Connie L. Saltsman is the Senior Director, Medication Management Clinical Pharmacy Informatics for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Saltsman provides leadership for enterprise wide adoption for multiple EHR projects including meaningful use, medication reconciliation, and CPOE and leads the medication management informatics work across the enterprise, which consists of approximately 165 hospitals, 120 outpatient surgery centers, and physician practices affiliated with HCA.  Dr. Saltsman is the residency director for the ASHP-accredited PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy, her MBA from the University of Baltimore and is CPHIMS certified.  Before working at HCA, Dr. Saltsman spent 10 years at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
