A patient portal can be an important tool for patient engagement and a market advantage if deployed and used effectively. This presentation will address how meaningful use regulations influenced new marketing approaches for the use of patient portals. It will also demonstrate the evolution of the patient portal at Citizens Memorial Hospital and how new innovations in the MEDITECH patient portal helps to facilitate the provider/patient interaction. The presentation will also reveal how Citizens Memorial Hospital, in Bolivar, has gone beyond the meaningful use requirements to use its patient portal to connect caregivers to patients. Michael Deckard is a Clinical Systems Analyst for Citizens Memorial Healthcare in Bolivar, Missouri. Deckard has been with CMH since 2013, currently serving as the lead support analyst for CMH rural health providers, the Emergency Department Module and the patient portal. Deckard has 12 years of clinical experience as a paramedic working in emergency departments and in the field. He holds an associate’s degree in nursing from Excelsior College and an associate’s degree in Network Technology from Ozarks Technical Community College.
